Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup Recipe

This Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup is a hearty and comforting soup that is ideal for chilly days. Split peas are cooked until tender with vegetables and seasonings before being pureed for a smooth and creamy texture. A ham hock can be added for extra flavor, or left out for a vegetarian version. This soup is simple to make and ideal for meal prep or freezing for later use.

  • Total Time: 8 hours, 10 minutes

Instructions

  • Combine the split peas, chicken broth, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, bay leaf, thyme, and black pepper in a slow cooker.
  • Add the ham hock to the slow cooker if using.
  • Cook for 8-10 hours on low or 4-5 hours on high, or until the peas are tender.
  • Remove the bay leaf and ham hock from the slow cooker (if using).
  • Puree the soup with an immersion blender until smooth, or transfer to a blender or food processor and puree in batches.
  • Serve immediately.
